Artist Statement

My work explores color, movement, and the relationship between abstraction and figuration, shaped by experiences growing up between London, India, and New York. I work instinctively and subconsciously, allowing paintings to develop through layers of saturated color, texture, pattern, and gesture.

Color is central to my practice. I am interested in its ability to create rhythm, energy, and movement across a surface. Growing up in India surrounded by vivid textiles, patterns, and pigments had a lasting influence on my visual language. References to flora, fauna, and decorative forms often appear throughout the work, sometimes clearly and sometimes dissolving into abstraction.

There is also a playful quality within my paintings. Animals that fascinated me as a child continue to appear in the work, connecting ideas of memory, imagination, and curiosity. These elements are less about representation and more about creating a visual world that feels both familiar and open to interpretation.

Living and working in New York has shaped the pace of my process. The city's energy and momentum often find their way into the paintings through layered surfaces, gestural mark making, and a continual sense of movement. In many ways, I paint the way New York moves.

Some works remain fully abstract, while others introduce figurative elements drawn from memory and observation. Across the work, color functions not only as composition, but as atmosphere, movement, and emotional force.
